Joint statement on intended changes to early foreign language teaching in NRW (11/2020):

In August 2020, Yvonne Gebauer, the current minister for schools and education in NRW, announced a new Masterplan Grundschule 2020. Part of this plan is to postpone the beginning of teaching foreign languages in primary schools in NRW to class 3 with almost immediate effect, i.e. from the beginning of the school year 2021/22.

Professors in foreign language education from across Germany have responded with a joint statement to express their deep concerns about this move. This statement, which I co-authored, can be accessed and downloaded here.
