Das ATHENA-Projekt der Europäischen Universitäten, bei dem die Universität Siegen beteiligt ist, hat am 20. Januar seine erste öffentliche Sitzung. // The ATHENA project of the European universities, in which the University of Siegen is involved, has its first public meeting on January 20th.

Sieben Partner aus sieben europäischen Ländern arbeiten in einem Projekt zusammen. ATHENA (Advanced Technology Higher Education Network Alliance) ist eine transnationale Allianz, die europäische Werte und Identität hervorhebt und die Qualität und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der europäischen Hochschulbildung revolutioniert. Hintergrund ist ein Förderprogramm der EU-Kommission, das Allianzen mit Hochschulen aus unterschiedlichen Ländern fördert.
Zur ATHENA-Kooperation gehören Partner aus Portugal (mit dem Instituto Polytechnico do Porto als Sprecheruniversität), Frankreich, Griechenland, Italien, Litauen, Slowenien und Deutschland. Gearbeitet wird an der Internationalisierung der Studienprogramme und der Mobilitätsangebote sowie an der Stärkung der internationalen Forschung.
Am 20. Januar startet das ATHENA-Projekt mit der ersten öffentlichen Sitzung. Rektoren und Präsidenten der sieben Hochschulen des Konsortiums formalisieren die gemeinsame Strategie.

ATHENA hat zum Ziel, inklusive, innovative und hoch qualifizierte internationale Bildungsarbeit und Forschung, ausgerichtet am globalen Arbeitsmarkt, zu liefern. Angesprochen werden Herausforderungen im wirtschaftlichen, sozialen und ökologischen Bereich im Kontext der europäischen Forschungsleitlinien, um optimale Beschäftigungsmöglichkeiten und beste Karrierechancen für die Studierenden und einen Mehrwert für unser Ökosystem zu schaffen.
Es handelt sich um eine Initiative, die „den Aufbau eines europäischen Bildungsraums durch die Gründung von Konsortien oder Verbänden zwischen Hochschuleinrichtungen aus verschiedenen Mitgliedsstaaten“ bestimmt, sagt José Carlos Quadrado, Pro-Präsident des Polytechnischen Instituts von Porto. „Die Tatsache, dass wir bei diesem Projekt federführend sind, ist von besonderer Bedeutung. Wir schreiben die Zukunft. Nämlich die Art und Weise, wie die Hochschulen der Zukunft organisiert werden.“ Holger Burckhart, Rektor der Universität Siegen, ergänzt: „Wir sind sehr froh und stolz, als eine der 35 europäischen Hochschulen in Deutschland Teil von ATHENA zu sein und werden alles tun, um ATHENA erfolgreich zu machen."

Seven partners from seven European countries are working together on one project – ATHENA (Advanced Technology Higher Education Network Alliance). This is a transnational alliance that emphasizes European values and identity and revolutionizes the quality and competitiveness of European higher education. The background to this is a funding program of the EU Commission that promotes alliances with universities from different countries.
This alliance includes partners from Portugal (with the Instituto Polytechnico do Porto as the spokesperson university), France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Slovenia and Germany. Its aim is to internationalize the study programs and mobility options as well as to strengthen international research.
The ATHENA project starts on January 20th with the first public meeting. Rectors and presidents of the seven universities in the consortium formalize the joint strategy.

ATHENA aims to deliver inclusive, innovative and highly qualified international education and research, geared to the needs of global job market. In the context of the European research guidelines, challenges in the economic, social and ecological area are addressed in order to create optimal employment opportunities and the best career opportunities for students as well as added value for our ecosystem.
This is an initiative that determines "the construction of a European Education Area through the establishment of consortia or federations, from different Member States, between Higher Education Institutions", says José Carlos Quadrado, Pro-president of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. “The fact that we are in the lead of this project is of particular importance. We are writing the future", – he underlines – "namely the way of organizing the HEIs of the future." Holger Burckhart, Rector of the University of Siegen, adds: “We are very pleased and proud to be part of ATHENA as one of the 35 European universities in Germany and will do everything to make ATHENA successful."
