MESITA Kick-Off Meeting Marks the Launch of a New EU–Nigeria Partnership

MESITA (Master of Science in Smart Farming and IoT in Agriculture) is a new Master’s programme established across four universities in Nigeria to modernise agriculture through smart farming, IoT, embedded systems, and AI-based applications. The programme is delivered by the Nigerian partner universities University of Port Harcourt, Obafemi Awolowo University, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with EU partners University of Siegen, University of Food Technologies Plovdiv, and Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and with industry involvement from AlumUnite Limited.

MESITA Project Officially Launched in Nigeria

Partners of Project MESITA – Master of Science in Smart Farming & IoT in Agriculture met in Abuja, Nigeria, from 19 to 21 November 2025 for the project’s official kick-off meeting, marking the start of a long-term collaboration between Nigerian and EU partner universities and key national and international stakeholders.

Across three intensive days, representatives from Nigerian partner universities, EU partner universities, the Delegation of the European Union to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and ECOWAS, and the Ministry of Education aligned on the shared vision for the new MSc programme, coordinated the work plan for the coming months, and planned capacity-building activities for staff and institutions. The consortium reviewed progress and advanced the work package discussions, focusing on key implementation areas such as programme preparation, accreditation and approval pathways, knowledge transfer activities, lab infrastructure development and procurement processes, and dissemination/exploitation planning.

On the final day, the consortium also visited the Ministry of Education, strengthening institutional alignment and reinforcing the shared commitment to supporting the successful implementation of MESITA.
