Jun.-Prof. Dr. Lawrence Wilde

Dr. Lawrence Wilde ist Komponist, Pädagoge, Musiktheoretiker und Juniorprofessor für Komposition und Musiktheorie in postdigitalen Bildungsräumen an der Universität Siegen. Seine künstlerische Forschung konzentriert sich auf die Schnittstelle von Klang, Technologie und Nachhaltigkeit, mit besonderem Fokus auf die postdigitale Bedingung: das Verständnis, dass digitale und analoge Praktiken heute nicht mehr voneinander getrennt, sondern eng miteinander verflochten sind. In seiner Arbeit untersucht Wilde, wie Komposition in postdigitalen Kontexten zu ökologischem Bewusstsein und Nachhaltigkeit beitragen kann.

Seine Kompositionen verbinden häufig digitale und akustische Elemente und verstehen Technologie als integralen Bestandteil des kreativen Prozesses. Wildes Forschung reflektiert, wie Materialien, Werkzeuge und Methoden musikalischer Produktion auf ökologische Fragestellungen reagieren können. Damit hinterfragt er traditionelle Grenzen der Komposition und trägt zu breiteren Diskussionen über Nachhaltigkeit, Kreativität und unser Verhältnis zu Technologie bei.

Von The New York Times als „passionate and dramatically contoured“ beschrieben, wurde Wildes Musik von führenden Ensembles in Auftrag gegeben und aufgeführt, darunter das Kronos Quartet, Eighth Blackbird, JACK Quartet, So Percussion, Tesla Quartet, die Berlin Academy of American Music, Ensemble Mise-En, ÆON Ensemble und Variant 6, unter anderen. Seine Werke wurden international bei bedeutenden Festivals und an renommierten Aufführungsorten präsentiert, darunter Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, das Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music und das Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical.

Wilde ist Direktor des Studio für postdigitale Kreativitätsforschung (SpK) und des Postdigital Laptop Ensemble (PULSE) an der Universität Siegen. Er ist Mitglied der Young Academy for Sustainability Research (YAS) am Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies der Universität Freiburg sowie Mitglied des Jungen Kollegs der Nordrhein-Westfälischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Künste.

Wilde war Forschungs- und Lehrstipendiat an der Princeton University, der Juilliard School und weiteren Institutionen. Darüber hinaus erhielt er Kompositionsstipendien beim Tanglewood Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Bang on a Can Music Festival und anderen Programmen. Er besitzt einen Bachelor of Music in Komposition von der Juilliard School sowie einen Master of Fine Arts und einen Ph.D. in Komposition von der Princeton University.

Dr. Lawrence Wilde is a composer, educator, music theorist, and Junior Professor of Composition and Music Theory in Postdigital Educational Spaces at the University of Siegen. His artistic research focuses on the intersection of sound, technology, and sustainability, with particular attention to the postdigital condition: the understanding that digital and analog practices are no longer separate, but deeply intertwined. Through his work, Wilde investigates how composition can contribute to ecological awareness and sustainability in postdigital contexts.

His compositions often combine digital and acoustic elements, treating technology as an integral part of the creative process.
