Your path to a Bachelor's thesis
Prerequisite fulfilled - topic and supervisor determined
Once you have selected your topic and supervisor, please submit the application form to the Examination Office. After approval, you will receive official admission and the processing period for your thesis will begin.

Everything important at a glance
The application for admission to the Bachelor's thesis must be submitted to the Examination Board via the Examination Office. The application must be submitted and approved before the start of the thesis. Admission to the Bachelor's thesis is governed by § 13 RPO-B. The prerequisite for admission to the Bachelor's thesis is the prior acquisition of at least 120 credit points for completed modules (Second Amendment Ordinance to the FPO 2019). Admission to the Bachelor's thesis will be announced in writing or electronically via the campus management system unisono.
The Bachelor's thesis is interdisciplinary and therefore assigned to the 1st core subject DBHS (Digital Health Sciences). This means that the topic of the thesis does not have to correspond to the 2nd core subject. You can freely choose your supervisor from the group of authorized examiners* (does not have to be in the 2nd core subject!). An examiner is not obliged to examine you. You yourself should propose the first examiner and (if necessary in consultation with the first examiner) the second examiner (right of proposal, but no legal claim to fulfillment). The proposals must be submitted together with the registration of the B.A. thesis at the Examination Office.
The Bachelor's thesis should show that the candidate is able to work independently using scientific methods within a specified time and present the results appropriately. - The Bachelor's thesis accounts for 12 credit points of the Bachelor's degree program - Length 30 pages, max. 40 pages (without lists and appendices) - German language, English language after approval of the first supervisor - Title page (template see download/forms), table of contents, list of sources and bibliography - Signed and dated assurance/declaration (firmly bound) that the thesis was prepared independently and without aids (template declaration of independence see download/forms) - Two printed copies and one electronic form - The thesis must be defended in a colloquium
Registration of the thesis
At any time, provided the requirements are met! The application can be downloaded from the website. Please submit the completed and signed application as a scan by e-mail to the Examination Office. After approval by the examination board, you will receive your admission by e-mail. -
Start of processing/processing time/submission
Once the application has been approved, the processing period begins. The processing time is 4 months (if the deadline falls on a weekend or a public holiday, the next working day is the submission deadline. The Bachelor's thesis must be submitted to the Examination Office in the specified form and number by the deadline. If the thesis is delivered by post, the date of delivery to the post office (postmark) is decisive. If the work is not submitted on time, it will be graded as unsatisfactory.

Please send your thesis in digital form (PDF) and two bound versions to the Examination Office and also submit two physical theses. If you provide additional data outside of the thesis, please submit a data carrier as well.
Authorized to examine
First and second supervisors must be authorized to examine in accordance with § 9 RPO. The second supervisor does not have to be a member of the University of Siegen, provided that he or she has a significant professional proximity to the topic to be dealt with in the Bachelor's thesis. In the case of external theses, the first supervisor must be a member of the University of Siegen.
Changing the topic
The topic of the Bachelor's thesis can only be returned once and only within the first four weeks. -
Illness
In the event of illness, a medical certificate must be submitted to the Examination Office within three days. The processing time for the Bachelor's thesis will be extended by this time (maximum 2 months)
Withdrawal
You can withdraw from the Bachelor's thesis at the Examinations Office up to 1 week before the start of writing without giving a reason.
You can also withdraw from the Bachelor's thesis during the writing period for valid reasons. The written request must be submitted to the Examinations Office at least 7 days before the deadline. If the Examination Board recognizes these reasons, the Bachelor's thesis is deemed not to have been undertaken.
Colloquium Each Bachelor's thesis submitted must be defended with an ungraded colloquium. - Inspection of the reports After the result has been communicated, the inspection of the reports can be requested at the Examination Office. - Poor performance In the event of poor performance, the Bachelor's thesis can be repeated once
