The working group introduces itself
At the Chair of Water Management Risk Assessment and Climate Impact Research, we deal with a range of highly topical issues relating to water, weather and climate. These are described here
described in more detail. For our research, we use the latest findings from climate model experiments, which form the scientific basis for the IPCC climate report and have a decision-making function. Through our cooperation with partners such as the Federal Institute of Hydrology, the German
and the European Weather Service
and the World Meteorological Organization
we have our finger on the pulse of the consequences of weather and climate-related risks and have a comprehensive understanding of the associated institutional framework conditions.
About our working group
"In addition to focusing on research and being a reliable and competent partner to the manufacturing industry, one of the main tasks of the IPEM Chair as part of the University of Siegen is to train outstanding personalities. In addition to supporting academic staff, the focus is on the development of students. For this reason, the IPEM Master was launched in the winter semester 20/21, which equips students with the skills they need to excel in an international and digital environment."
Our research profile
The use and processing of large hydrological and climatic data sets inevitably requires a basic affinity for computer-aided tools and methods. If you are interested in joining our group, you should have a certain enthusiasm for working with advanced computer languages such as Fortran, C/C++
and Python
which we use for (big) data processing, statistical computing, numerical simulations, machine learning applications and computational visualization. Modules for learning these skills are offered by our partner institutes in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
of the School of Science and Technology at the University of Siegen.
