Departmental Coordinators

The departmental coordinators at the University of Siegen support the University’s International Office within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, whether by establishing and maintaining partnerships with universities in Europe or by selecting and advising students participating in the  Erasmus+ program.

Maintaining Partnerships

Areas of Responsibility

The departmental coordinators maintain relationships with their contacts at partner universities.
Teaching mobilities at partner universities and at the University of Siegen may be funded under the Erasmus+ staff mobility for teaching.

Staff members from technical and administrative departments may participate in job shadowing at partner universities or take part in Europe-wide staff weeks under the Erasmus+ staff mobility for training.

New Erasmus+ partnerships are initiated by the faculty or departments and coordinated by the International Office.

To conclude an Inter-Institutional Agreement with a European university, the following points must be agreed upon:

  1. Academic focus of the exchange, including relevant degree programs at the University of Siegen and the partner university, if applicable
  2. Language requirements for Erasmus+ studies at the University of Siegen and the partner university,
  3. Designation of a subject coordinator at the University of Siegen and the partner university.

Finally, the new cooperation agreement is signed by the partner university and the International Office and published on the Partnerships Portal.

Please note that Inter-Institutional Agreements are concluded exclusively in digital form. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact Ms. Julia Shirley.

Student Support

Outgoing Erasmus+ Students of the University of Siegen

After the application deadline, the International Office reviews the applications received from students for Erasmus+ studies to ensure they are complete. The documents are then shared with the departmental coordinators.

Selection is based on the submitted application materials and, if necessary, individual interviews, according to established selection criteria. Pre-filled selection lists are used for this purpose, in which priorities and rejections are noted. For more information, please see our Notes of Guidance and selection list.

Once all departmental coordinators have submitted their selection results, the International Office publishes seat offers via the MoveON Outgoing Portal.

In the new generation of the Erasmus+ program, the Learning Agreement for Studies is replaced by a digital version, the Online Learning Agreement (OLA).

The OLA includes information on course selection at the partner institution and on credit recognition at the University of Siegen; however, it is created, reviewed, and officially approved via the University of Siegen’s MoveON database.

Faculties and departments have appointed so-called OLA Contacts, who are granted access to the MoveON database and can then assist participating students in creating their OLAs. Step-by-step instructions for working with the Online Learning Agreement can be found in our OLA Guidelines for Departmental Coordinators (German only).

The basis for the recognition of foreign academic credits is the Learning Agreement (LA) and the Transcript of Records (ToR), which students receive from the partner institution upon completion of their studies abroad.

The faculties and departments are required to recognize all academic credits successfully completed at the partner institution, as agreed upon in the Learning Agreement (LA).

Incoming Erasmus+ Students from Partner Universities

After the nomination deadline has passed, the International Office reviews the submitted documents for relevance and completeness. The departmental coordinators then receive the applications from students at partner universities for academic review. If they approve the application, the International Office will process the student’s admission to the University of Siegen.

The International Office informs selected students from partner universities about how to search for courses in unisono. The academic coordinators assist students from partner universities in selecting courses at the University of Siegen for the preparation of the Online Learning Agreement (OLA). Please note that the sending university decides on the technical implementation of the OLA.

Students must submit the completed Online Learning Agreement (OLA) to the partner university by the deadline. The OLA Guidelines for Departmental Coordinators contain information on how to use OLA in MoveON starting on page 12 (Step 5).

The departmental coordinators are responsible for providing academic support to students from partner universities and, if necessary, assist with changes to the Online Learning Agreement (OLA).
