University-wide Foundations
August von Platen Foundation
The August von Platen Foundation was established by Univ.-Prof. (em.) Dr. Wolfgang Popp (†) and is administered by the University of Siegen. The foundation’s goals are in the spirit of August Graf von Platen-Hallermünde (1796–1835). Platen was the first significant poet in modern German literary history to address homosexuality in his works without prejudice. The foundation seeks to preserve and strengthen the memory of this poet by supporting scholarly research on the relationship between homosexuality, literature, and the media, as well as academic theses that address topics in gender studies.
To this end, the foundation supports the Wolfgang Popp Prize, with which the Center for Gender Studies at the University of Siegen honors outstanding theses on topics in gender studies. The prize may be supplemented by funds from the August von Platen Foundation in the amount of up to 500 euros.

Division-wide Foundations
Wolfgang Dreger Foundation
The foundation was established by University Professor Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Dreger, who taught in the “Systems Engineering and Quality Management” department within the School of Mechanical Engineering. The purpose of the foundation is to support students in the master’s program in Industrial Engineering, as well as students in their fifth semester or higher in the bachelor’s program at the University of Siegen, by awarding scholarships. The scholarship (in the amount of €300 per month) is initially awarded for one year. If a promising report is submitted demonstrating adequate academic progress and satisfactory coursework and exam performance, the duration may be extended annually for an additional year, but for no more than two additional years, so that the maximum duration of support under the scholarship is three years. If the student does not enroll in a master’s program after completing the bachelor’s degree, the scholarship ends upon completion of the bachelor’s degree.
