Learn Italian in Rome
Italian Language Course, Including a Cultural Program, at Levels A1 and B1 (UNIcert®I Certificate Course)
In August 2026, we will once again be offering the Summer School in Rome for levels A1 and B1 in collaboration with Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. As part of the B1 course, you can earn the UNIcert®I certificate.
You are eligible to participate in the B1 Summer School course if you successfully complete the Italian A2 course in the Summer Semester 2026, or if you successfully completed the A2 course in the Winter Semester 2025/26 or in previous semesters.
The A1 course is a beginner’s course for participants with no prior knowledge. However, you are expected to learn a few basics in advance so that you won’t be “at a loss for words” upon your arrival in Rome.
Summer School in Rome 2026
Registration
You can apply during the registration periods for the 2026 summer semester via your university’s portal.
Since we always receive a large number of applications, there is a two-step selection process: First, we offer an informational meeting, which is the first admission requirement.
Mandatory introductory meeting: Friday, April 10, 2026, 6:00 p.m. via Webex
We will meet separately with applicants for the B1 level on April 15 to provide information about the content and requirements of the B1 level. For admission to the A1 level, please submit a brief profile outlining your motivation. Confirmation of admission to the Summer School will follow.
Seminar Location
Università Pontificia Salesiana (Piazza dell’Ateneo Salesiano, 00139 Rome)
Accommodations
You are responsible for arranging your own accommodations. When making your reservation, we recommend choosing a location close to the seminar venue and allowing sufficient time on seminar days to ensure you arrive on time for the start of each day’s classes. The seminar location is accessible via the “Jonio” metro station on Line B. Therefore, staying near a station on Metro Line B is a good option.
Travel
You are responsible for arranging your own travel to and from the seminar.
Latest arrival date: Sunday, August 2, 2026
Earliest departure date: Since the farewell party (Festa delle Summer School) takes place on Friday evening, we recommend departing no earlier than Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Language Course
Course length: 60 class hours per level
Language Course: From Monday, August 3, 2026 (first day of class) to Friday, August 28, 2026 (last day of class, final exams)
Cultural Program
Two day trips within Rome and a day trip to Salerno / the Amalfi Coast with the option to stay overnight.
Cost
- Travel to and from the course
- Accommodations and meals: These must be arranged independently.
- Participation fee of 100.00 euros for on-site coordination of the cultural program. Payment is due by May 15, 2026; no refunds will be issued.
- Admission fees: Remember to bring your student ID, as many attractions are free for students under 26.
- Travel expenses for the excursion to Salerno and, if applicable, lodging in Salerno
- International health insurance, if applicable
- There is no cost for the language course; the textbook costs approximately 32 €. Participants must purchase the textbook themselves and bring it to the first class session in Rome.
