Highly Prestigious International Award for Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mario Pacas
In recognition of his achievements, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mario Pacas has been awarded the “Harry A. Owen, Jr. Distinguished Service Award.” The honor was bestowed upon him by the IEEE Power Electronics Society (IEEE-PELS), the international professional society for power electronics. IEEE is one of the leading organizations for professionals in electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, and related technical disciplines. It brings together researchers, engineers, and experts from universities and industry and promotes the exchange of information on new technologies and research findings. PELS is the technical society within IEEE dedicated to the field of power electronics. Pacas served the society in various capacities for many years, actively promoting its international networking efforts.
From 1996 to 2024, Pacas was a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Siegen and held the Chair of Power Electronics and Electric Drives. He consistently combined research and teaching with a strong international commitment. The award recognizes his contributions to the technical society and the advancement of power electronics. At the same time, it highlights the international visibility of the work Pacas accomplished during his tenure at the University of Siegen.
Pacas began his professional career in industry after studying electrical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe and earning his doctorate in 1985. From 1985 to 1996, he worked at BBC/ABB in Switzerland and Germany in various research, development, and management roles. During this time, he gained extensive experience in international projects. Among other things, he was responsible for the development of servo drives.
Today, the professor emeritus continues to work as an independent consultant in the fields of power electronics, electric drives, and automation. He is also a member of the Academic Advisory Board of renowned journals in the field of electrical engineering.
