Faculty I: Financial Support

Target group: Doctoral candidates (nearing completion of their dissertation)
Purpose: Completion of the doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities
Amount of the completion fellowship: €1,750 per month (plus a family allowance, if applicable)
Duration of the fellowship: up to one year
Application deadline: June 1 through 30

Target group: Academic staff and external doctoral candidates
Purpose: Support for academic activities
Amount of funding: up to €800 per year (typically with a 25% self-contribution)
Application deadline: None; ideally, apply well in advance of the start of research activities

Important:
- You must have made every effort to secure external funding for your projects (e.g., DAAD fellowships for research trips).
- For individuals employed in a project position or as a staff member of a professorship, the application must clearly state that funding is not available from the professorship’s budget, project funds, or other budgetary resources. Confirmation from the professorship or project director is absolutely required. For individuals who are not employed in a project position or as a staff member of a professorship, the signature of the dissertation or habilitation advisor is required instead.
- Please note that research activities must initially be self-funded.

If you are applying for travel support and are employed at the University of Siegen, please submit a travel expense report to the Dean’s Office after your trip is complete. Please submit an application for business travel authorization or notification of business travel in advance.
External applicants should submit the application for travel expense reimbursement to the Dean’s Office. Please note on the application that you have applied for funding under the program for academic staff and external doctoral candidates.

Target group: all members of the School
Purpose: international networking and raising the profile of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities
Amount of funding: €2,500 per month for postdocs and €3,000 per month for professors
Duration: up to three months
Application deadline: September 1–30 of the year preceding the visiting period and, if applicable, December 10–January 10

Submit the application (including attachments) within the application deadline to the Associate Dean for Research and Early-Career Scholars (with a copy to the administration).
The application will then be reviewed by the Research Committee of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

Conference Funding

Target group: all members of the School
Purpose: To support national or international conferences organized by professional associations at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities
Amount of funding: up to €1,500
Application deadline: June 1–30

Submit the application ( including attachments) to the Associate Dean for Research and Early-Career Scholars ( with a copy to the Administration) by the application deadline.
The application will then be reviewed by the Research Committee of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
