Addressing Anti-Semitism Through Education: Misconceptions, Methods, and More
Practical workshop with Lorenz van Overloop (Siegen Association for Political Education) as part of the series “Antisemitism, Antiziganism, and Political Education,” organized by POLIS and the Office for Equal Opportunity at the University of Siegen.
Practical Workshop
Addressing antisemitism through education is (unfortunately) unavoidable. Whether because hatred of Jews is increasingly manifesting itself openly in schools and other learning environments, demanding a response from educators, or because there are political calls for preventive educational efforts against antisemitism.
However, when aiming to conduct education that critically addresses antisemitism, educators quickly encounter practical challenges—first and foremost, the difficulty of defining antisemitism and clearly identifying misunderstandings about the subject matter of this educational work. This workshop takes a problem-oriented approach to the theoretical foundations and practical methods of political education critical of antisemitism.
