ATHENA SB Meeting Rome 2023

ATHENA Student Board

The Student Board was established as a vehicle for collaboration between student representatives and the academic coordinators for the Alliance's activities.

Its main objectives are

  • To coordinate student representation across the entire Alliance
  • Motivating students to participate actively
  • Promoting exchange at the European level

The ATHENA Student Board is looking for new members!

Do you enjoy advocating for student interests, are you interested in international exchange and collaboration with nine other European universities, and would you like to represent the University of Siegen in the ATHENA Alliance? Contact us here:

The Student Board represents all students within the ATHENA network and advocates for the involvement of students as an essential part of the European University. At the same time, it offers students the opportunity to broaden their perspectives in ATHENA’s partner cities by promoting best practices and strengthening collaboration across different academic departments.

Our goal as the Student Board is to ensure a strong student presence in key decision-making processes, including conferences and training sessions that support students’ academic development. Through active participation in “Action Group Meetings,” we gain firsthand experience in the areas of governance and documentation while upholding ATHENA’s vision of enhancing students’ academic careers. All of this is supported by effective communication with academic coordinators and mentors, which helps solidify the student leadership role.

ATHENA Student Board Members

  • attend the Student Board’s regular meetings, either virtually or in person (traveling to partner universities)
  • actively maintain contact with the ATHENA coordination office at their university
  • inform students at their university about Student Board decisions and ATHENA opportunities for students
  • have voting rights on the Student Board
  • contribute to the committees of the ATHENA Consortium to represent student interests in the long term.

Activities are welcome to

  • facilitate a shared European academic experience (e.g., through Info Days, events on the topic of Europe, and announcements in the Schools),
  • recruit more students to participate in Action Groups or on the Student Board
  • organize activities for and with students (e.g., hackathons, workshops),
  • promote ATHENA on social media
  • Establishing contacts with other groups or initiatives (e.g., the Southwestphalia region, the city of Siegen, the European Student Network, student associations, alumni).
