DAAD Language Proficiency Certificate
The Language Center issues DAAD language certificates for all languages taught (except German as a Foreign Language). These are often required for applications abroad (study abroad programs, internships). Please check with the respective program, the university of your choice, or the internship-hosting institution to find out what language proficiency level is required and whether the DAAD language certificate is accepted. You can obtain detailed information and advice on studying abroad from the International Student Affairs Office.
You can view the forms for language proficiency certificates in advance on the DAAD website.
For English, the test consists of the following sections:
- Reading Comprehension and General Language Proficiency: onSET Placement Test (computer-based C-Test), 40 minutes
- Written Expression: Essay on a general topic requiring academic language use (400–500 words), 45 minutes
- Oral exam (administered by the English Department): Interview regarding the planned study abroad stay (plans, goals, expectations, academic aspects), 10–15 minutes

- December 15
Starting at 11:30 a.m. each day (11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. onSET, 12:45–1:45 p.m. essay, starting around 2:00 p.m. interview/oral exam) in person at the Language Center.
