onSET Test

onSET as a Placement Test for English Courses

The onSET is a language placement test in the C-Test format. It assesses overall English language proficiency. Before enrolling in an English course at the Language Center, all new participants with prior knowledge of English must first take the onSET language placement test. Based on the results, they will then be placed in a course at the appropriate level.

Please register for an English course via unisono during the registration periods (“Preferred Course,” your personal assessment). You will then receive further information about the placement test (procedure, date, etc.) via email. If you have valid proof or a valid certificate of your English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, Cambridge, UNIcert), a placement test is not required.

onSET for Study Abroad – Global Exchange

The onSET test is offered, among other things, for English as part of the application process for study abroad and internships.

For Global Exchange, there are dates coordinated with the ISA department
for the application phases:

• Friday, May 22, 11:00 a.m.
• Wednesday, May 27, 11:30 a.m.
• Wednesday, May 27, 1:00 p.m.

Registration must be completed at least one week before the test date exclusively via email to: andrea.suessmann@spz.uni-siegen.de

onSET for other study abroad and academic purposes

For all other study abroad and academic purposes, the following dates are available for the onSET language test during the summer semester:

• Friday, May 22, 11:00 a.m.
• Wednesday, May 27, 11:30 a.m.
• Wednesday, May 27, 1:00 p.m.

Registration must be completed at least one week before the test date, exclusively via email to: andrea.suessmann@spz.uni-siegen.de

Please note: An onSET test may only be retaken if you can provide proof that you have completed a language course or language immersion program to improve your language skills.
