CITY CYCLING starts - Register now for the Uni-Siegen team
The goal: to cover as many distances as possible in a climate-friendly way
From Whitsun, Siegen-Wittgenstein will be pedaling hard again: From May 23 to June 12, 2026, the district will once again be taking part in the nationwide CITY CYCLING campaign together with the towns and municipalities. The aim is to cover as many distances as possible in everyday life in a climate-friendly way by bike - whether on the way to the lecture hall or office, for errands or in your free time.
The University of Siegen is once again taking part in the nationwide STADTRADELN campaign and cordially invites all university members to cycle as part of the university team. There is also once again the opportunity to create your own sub-teams within the main team, e.g. for Schools, working groups, service facilities, etc.
This is the sixth time that the Climate Alliance's mobility campaign has taken place in the district. Last year, 2,757 cyclists took part. Together, they covered 601,984 kilometers - the second-highest figure since the campaign began in Siegen-Wittgenstein. If they had covered this distance by car instead of by bike, they would have generated around 99 tons of CO₂.
Cyclists receive free coffee and cake from the Studierendenwerk
This year, the campaign has several new features. The new accompanying program "Bike & More", in which the Studierendenwerk Siegen is also involved, is a particular focus. There will be special activities and goodies for cyclists almost every day throughout the district. Anyone who comes along by bike and shows the CITY CYCLING app can take advantage of various offers free of charge. A small selection:
- May 23 - 25: At "Bike & Kultur Pur" on the Giller, there is a free drink for cyclists.
- May 30: At "Bike & Cinema" there is a free visit to the Viktoria cinema in Dahlbruch
- June 8 and 9: Bike & Campus Café offers a free cup of coffee and a slice of cake in the bistro on the Adolf-Reichwein-Straße campus and in the food court on the Unteres Schloss campus.
In addition to "Bike & More", a total of 27 guided bike tours will be offered throughout the district during the campaign period. In Bad Berleburg, Bad Laasphe, Burbach, Kreuztal, Hilchenbach, Netphen, Siegen and Erndtebrück, numerous tours for different target groups and fitness levels are on the program.
The competition between the towns and municipalities for the most kilometers per inhabitant has been part of CITY CYCLING for years. New this year is a challenge cup, which will be awarded to the most successful municipality in future. Last year, Bad Berleburg won this title with 6.96 kilometers per capita.
A special highlight also awaits particularly active participants: anyone who completes at least twenty rides during the campaign period and records a total of 250 kilometers via the CITY CYCLING app will automatically be entered into a prize draw for an organized bike trip for two people along the Lahn river lasting several days - including overnight stays.
All citizens, schools, clubs, companies and organizations in the district can take part. Participation is free of charge.
