Civic Education in Times of Authoritarian Temptations
Fire Department – Police Patrol – Deradicalization
In times of crisis, political education is often called upon to play the role of a firefighter: it is expected to save the climate, strengthen social cohesion, and counter authoritarian trends in order to save democracy. This presents associations such as the German Association for Political Education (DVPB) with the challenge of readjusting their own profile while simultaneously preserving it. The contributions in this volume stem from a fall conference of the DVPB that addressed these expectations of political education. They discuss political and governmental appeals, reflect on different positions, and explore the possibilities and limits of political education in times of diverse social upheavals.
