Colloquium "The Bible with the Church Fathers"

The colloquium "The Bible in the Church Fathers" took place on April 28, 2026. The focus was on two lectures on Origen of Alexandria and his interpretation of the Holy Scriptures.

Dr. Samuel Pomeroy examined the interpretation of Deut 32:8, in particular the idea that God determined the boundaries of nations according to the number of God's angels. He showed how Origen interpreted this tradition in the context of the distribution of humanity, the emergence of peoples, languages and territories as well as divine providence and how it gained new political significance in the early modern period.
Dr. Giovanni Hermanin de Reichenfeld presented the Orige.net project, an open access platform for the digital network analysis of biblical quotations in Origen's writings. His presentation showed how digital tools can be used to systematically evaluate and link groups of quotations, theological themes and Origenic text passages.
