Iris Litty starts as the new chancellor

The University of Siegen has a new chancellor: Iris Litty took office as chancellor on October 1, 2025. She is a fully qualified lawyer and heads the university administration, represents the Rector in legal matters and is responsible for construction and finance, among other things. Iris Litty was unanimously elected as Chancellor by the University Election Assembly on May 5, 2025. Before moving to the University of Siegen, she was Chancellor of the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe. Her term of office in Siegen is eight years.
"It is wonderful to see how warmly I was received here at the University of Siegen after my election and how welcome I am now at my start. It is with great pleasure and respect that I am taking over as Chancellor at the University of Siegen, which is facing major challenges," said Iris Litty. She succeeds Ulf Richter, who moved to the University of Duisburg-Essen at the beginning of 2025. Andreas Düngen, Head of Finance at the University of Siegen, took over the position of Chancellor on an interim basis.
University Rector Prof. Dr. Stefanie Reese welcomed Iris Litty: "I am delighted that Iris Litty is now taking office as Chancellor and would like to extend a warm welcome to her! I am very much looking forward to working with her in the university management. I would especially like to thank Andreas Düngen, who has taken on the Chancellor's work with great passion and commitment over the past few months."
On September 30, 2025, Iris Litty received her certificate of appointment from State Secretary Gonca Türkeli-Dehnert at the Ministry of Culture and Science (MKW) in Düsseldorf. The new Chancellor was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Hildegard Schröteler-von Brandt (Deputy Chair of the University Council) and Prof. Dr. Jutta Wiesemann (Spokesperson of the University) Senate.
About the person
Iris Litty was born in Bielefeld and is an experienced, broad-based university manager. She studied law at Bielefeld University and passed her first state law examination in 1999. After her legal clerkship at Bielefeld District Court, she passed the second state law examination. She also obtained an additional qualification as a business lawyer (IDB). After holding positions at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Bielefeld University, she set up the newly founded Research Funding Department at Bochum University of Applied Sciences. She then took over the management of the legal department at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, one of the largest universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. Since 2020, Iris Litty has been Chancellor of the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe in Bochum. Iris Litty is 50 years old, married and the mother of a grown-up son.
