Kick-off meeting of the 6th Lutheran/Roman Catholic Commission in Slovenia

From February 2 to 8, Prof. Dr. Markus Lersch took part in the constituent meeting of the 6th International Lutheran/Roman Catholic Commission for Unity in Slovenia as a member of the Vatican delegation. The Commission conducts the official theological dialog between the two denominations on behalf of the Lutheran World Federation and the Roman Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity.

This dialog, which began almost 60 years ago, has already contributed a great deal to understanding and produced such important documents as the "Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification" of 1999, which has since been joined by the World Methodist Council, the Anglican Communion and the World Communion of Reformed Churches.

In the next phase, which will be headed by the Bishop of Helsinki, Raimo Ramón Goyarrola Belda, and Bishop Patricia Lull of the St. Paul Area Synod of the ELCA, a joint statement on the 500th anniversary of the Confessio Augustana in 2030 is initially planned.
