Launch of the bachelor's degree program in "Art History and Art Education" in the 2026/27 winter semester

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new bachelor’s degree program in Art History and Art Education for the upcoming 2026/2027 winter semester. The interdisciplinary curriculum is characterized by a systematic integration of theory and practice. Through close collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Siegen, the Siegen Art Association, the Siegerland Museum, and other institutions in the region and throughout North Rhine-Westphalia, students gain targeted insights into exhibition, museum, and art education practices even while they are still studying. At the University of Siegen, art education is taught from both art-historical and art-pedagogical perspectives. It encompasses initial practical experience with art as well as critical reflection and exploratory engagement with curatorial practices. 

The bachelor’s program aims to closely interweave different fields of knowledge and disciplines in order to equip graduates with the skills to engage in interdisciplinary education on art and cultural-historical objects. In addition to art history, art education, and art practice, other artistic disciplines (architecture and music) as well as the Department of Education in School II contribute to the program with a select range of courses. Elective modules from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities’ “Studium Generale” program also allow students to develop individual areas of focus in the humanities and cultural studies, as well as to acquire additional language skills. The program thus provides both a foundation for early career paths and the opportunity to pursue a variety of consecutive master’s programs.
