LEOwiese officially opened - New feel-good place on the AR campus

The new LEOwiese on the Adolf-Reichwein-Straße campus was officially opened with an atmospheric party. Numerous students, staff and lecturers took the opportunity to explore the new facilities such as seating, barbecue and sports equipment in the summer weather.

The new LEOwiese was created as a team effort involving numerous university institutions and on the initiative of the Rectorate.

The former bistro meadow has become the LEOwiese: a meeting place for all members of the university and a place to linger, chat, play and exercise. "As the Rectorate, we are strongly committed to improving the quality of life at the University of Siegen. The aim is for the campus to be a place where students and employees enjoy spending time - even after lectures or work. The LEOwiese is a wonderful place for this," said Rector Prof. Dr. Stefanie Reese at the opening party.

The project was initiated by Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Petra Vogel. It was implemented as a team effort involving numerous university institutions. The Rectorate invited guests to the party and, with the support of the Studierendenwerk Siegen, provided refreshments: grilled sausages and cool drinks were available to all guests free of charge.

Barbecue, play and relax

There was plenty of action on the new playing fields, where many of the visitors played volleyball, soccer and giant Jenga or tested out the new barbecue. University sports, the new student health management program "healthup" and the university library presented their services. Sports and play equipment could be borrowed on site and tried out directly (see info box).

By the way: The LEOwiese is not yet finished. During the semester break, the final conversion work will be carried out. In addition to the LEOwiese, another project is in the starting blocks: A "green center" will be created in the area of the former interim canteen between the AR-IF and AR-HB buildings. More information will follow.

How to: Use the barbecue area and book play equipment

  • Games and sports equipment: volleyball, soccer, frisbee, Viking chess and more can be borrowed from the main library AR during the opening hours of the university library. This is possible at the circulation desk on presentation of a library card. Loan items can be searched for via the catalog plus (e.g. search term "leowiese").   • Barbecue area: The barbecue area can be used by members of the university during building opening hours. Registration at grillen@uni-siegen.de is required for this
  • Barbecuepackage: The Studierendenwerk Siegen offers a barbecue package. This includes 10 sausages (also vegan), 5 rolls, ketchup and mustard, 1 pair of wooden barbecue tongs, 2.5 kg of charcoal and 2 six-packs of drinks. All this for 39.90 euros - ideal for 4 to 5 people. Order and pick up at Bistro AR
