A Conversation with Jacobo Sefamí: Memory, Family, and the Female Presence in Literature

Mexican writer, poet, and literary scholar Jacobo Sefamí discusses formative experiences, personal memories, and the significance of family in his literary work. In this interview, he reflects on the strong role women have played in his own family history and how these experiences have shaped his understanding of gender roles and power dynamics. In doing so, he also addresses the tension between a personal life dominated by women and the patriarchal traditions that persist in literary narrative forms. In addition, Sefamí offers insights into the creation of his novels and poems, discusses the challenges of authentically portraying female perspectives in literature, and shares his admiration for the Mexican writer Juan Rulfo as well as his desire to strike up a conversation with him over a glass of tequila.
