More green, more campus life
Forest sofas, bench-table combinations, hammocks between the trees and lots of green grass. There are also flower meadows, a sandy area with a "beach hut", volleyball and soccer pitches and a slackline. All of this awaits students and employees of the University of Siegen in future on the outdoor areas of the Adolf Reichwein Campus and is intended to provide a better quality of stay. Construction work has already begun: On the one hand, the offerings are being created on the LEOwiese, which was already provisionally set up and used last summer semester. Secondly, in the "Green Center" area between the NA building, the Haardter Berg School and the "IF" and "E" buildings.
Both campus areas were used for construction work during the HKOP renovation (2017-2020) and were gravelled and heavily compacted for this purpose. In order for them to shine in fresh green again in future, the soil now needs to be loosened up and new grass sown in. To this end, the forest sofas and snack islands on the LEOwiese were dismantled and set up on the Hölderlin and Paul Bonatz campuses. Once the lawn has been completed, new seating furniture will be installed on the LEOwiese and the barbecue area and volleyball net will be reinstalled. Awnings will provide shade on the meadow in future.
A volleyball court and a soccer pitch are planned in the "green center" area. A 15-metre long slackline will also be set up. Next to the lawn, a sandy area with an awning including a "beach hut" is planned - this could create a real "beach feeling" on hot days in the future. The green center will be flanked by wildflower meadows, hammocks will be hung between the tall trees in the southern area and a boules court will be created.
Construction machinery will be used for the necessary work over the coming weeks. Noise nuisance must therefore be expected. In addition, access to the AR-Campus at the southern end (via Robert-Schumann-Straße) will be restricted for vehicles. However, all areas of the campus can still be reached on foot. The DHL packing station will also remain in operation.
The measures should be completed by the start of the winter semester. Whether and how the areas can be used at the start of the semester depends on the weather and the growth of the grass.
