New prize for outstanding teaching

Special commitment and outstanding achievements in teaching are to be honored at the University of Siegen with a new prize. The "Teaching Prize of the University of Siegen" is awarded to individual lecturers or teaching teams: It recognizes outstanding and innovative contributions in the areas of teaching, examinations, advising and student support. The prize is endowed with 5,000 euros and will be awarded annually in future. It is a joint initiative of the Vice-Rectorates "Studies, Teaching and Quality Management" and "Teaching Staff, Continuing Education and Sustainability".

"With the award, we want to strengthen the quality of teaching as a central feature of our university and make innovative approaches visible. In the long term, the award should help to further optimize studies and teaching," say Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Hans Merzendorfer and Vice-Rector Dr. Barbara Müller-Naendrup.

The students at the University of Siegen decide who is shortlisted: Bachelor's and Master's students can nominate their lecturers for the award. A nomination must be supported by at least ten students in order to be successful.

The Commission for Quality Improvement in Teaching and Studies then selects the winner from all nominees. The committee is made up of students, lecturers, academic staff and experts from the field of university didactics. The selection criteria include the originality and creativity of the teaching and learning methods, the development of new curricula or modules as well as new advisory and support concepts and the promotion of a supportive learning environment.

The prize money of 5,000 euros will be used to further improve teaching at the University of Siegen.

Nominations for the Teaching Award 2025 are possible until July 18.
