Resolution of the (University) Senates
In a joint resolution, the (University) Senates of ten major universities in North Rhine-Westphalia have issued an urgent warning about the consequences of the planned cuts to basic university funding. The state is planning to cut funding by around 150 million euros per year from 2026. According to the (University) Senates, this cut will jeopardize the universities' long-term performance in research, teaching and transfer. The (University) Senate of the University of Siegen has also signed the resolution.
The resolution was also passed by the (University) Senates of the following universities: RWTH Aachen University, Bielefeld University, Ruhr University Bochum, Dortmund University of Technology, University of Duisburg-Essen, FernUniversität in Hagen, German Sport University Cologne, University of Cologne, University of Wuppertal.
The (University) Senates are made up of elected representatives from the four groups of university teaching staff, academic staff, technical and administrative staff and students.
