The Chair at the CHANCEN Consortium Conference in Berlin

The CHANCEN consortium’s internal conference took place in Berlin on September 7–8, 2026. The consortium brings together the expertise of 20 partner institutions from across Germany to support the federal and state governments in implementing the Startchancen program. The two-day conference focused on discussing common topics, terminology, and challenges, as well as on how the different perspectives and areas of focus of the participating institutions can be brought together to form a coherent, joint effort within the network.

Our department, together with the Department of School Pedagogy at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (Nina Bremm), was represented as part of the governance research within the CHANCEN consortium. As part of a poster session, the research team presented two contributions from the ongoing project: one poster on social network analysis in governance research and another on the analysis of legal and administrative documents. The posters provided insights into two key methodological approaches the team is using to examine how the “Startchancen” program is managed and implemented in the federal states.

In addition to substantive discussions, the conference provided ample opportunity for direct exchange and for getting to know colleagues from the various partner institutions personally. In this way, the meeting also made an important contribution to further networking and collaboration within the CHANCEN consortium.
