Traffic survey as part of the in-depth module "Road design and road traffic engineering"

As part of the bachelor's in-depth module "Road Design and Traffic Engineering", students from the Chair of Traffic Planning and Mobility carried out a traffic survey in the Dreis-Tiefenbach through road on the B 62. The aim of the study was to systematically record the traffic situation at selected signalized junctions and to analyse the processes on site.

The survey focused on the two junctions Im Bruch (B 62) / Siegstraße (K 4) / Siegstraße (B 62) and Siegstraße (B 62) / Untere Industriestraße / Kronprinzenstraße (B 62). The students installed and configured the ARGOS video detection systems from DataCollect for this purpose. With the help of these two systems, automatic traffic counting could be carried out in parallel at both junctions.

In addition to the video-based recording, the students made direct observations of the various user groups and carried out additional manual surveys. In this way, additional information on traffic flow and the behavior of road users could be documented. In addition, the signal programs at the junctions were analyzed and the respective signal phases identified. In addition, observations were made at the Siegstraße (B 62) / Dreisbachstraße (L 728) junction during peak traffic times.

The traffic survey offered the students the opportunity to apply the theoretical content of the module directly in practice and to gain initial experience in the implementation and evaluation of traffic studies. The results of the traffic survey will be used in the further course of the module to develop a traffic engineering study of the junctions.
