University of Siegen scores well in "THE subject ranking"
Success in the international subject ranking 2025 of the magazine "Times Higher Education" (THE): The University of Siegen was able to improve significantly in two of the four subject groups assessed. Both in the subject groups "Social Science" (social sciences, media studies) and "Business & Economics" (economics, business administration, economics, business informatics), the university achieved better rankings compared to the previous year.
In "Social Science", the University of Siegen ranked between 401st and 500th in 2025 (in 2024, it was ranked between 601st and 800th). In "Business & Economics", the university achieved places 301 to 400 in the current ranking. In the previous year, the area was still ranked in the 401 to 500 group. Both subject groups moved further up the rankings, while at the same time competition from other universities increased. Engineering" also performed successfully once again in the ranking. For the second year in a row, the University of Siegen achieved places 301 to 400.
For a precise evaluation, the ranking examines the individual departments of universities worldwide with regard to the indicators of teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international orientation.
The University of Siegen achieved significant improvements in two individual criteria in particular: In the "Industry" indicator, the "Business & Economics", "Engineering" and "Physical Science" groups recorded significant increases in quality and in some cases even doubled their scores compared to the previous year. The areas of "Business & Economics", "Physical Science" and "Social Science" were equally successful in the "Research environment" criterion.
The THE subject ranking is a spin-off of the major annual university ranking published by London-based magazine Times Higher Education in October 2024. In the THE ranking for 2025, Siegen is ranked between 501 and 600 overall - despite the fact that the number of universities has increased by almost 200 compared to the previous year.
