Volkacher Taler for Dr. Jana Mikota
Books for young people and their passion for reading are close to Dr. Jana Mikota's heart. The German Academy for Children's and Young Adult Literature (Volkach/Bavaria) has awarded the Volkacher Taler to the research assistant at the German Studies Department at the University of Siegen for her services to children's and young adult literature research.
According to the Academy, she deserves thanks and recognition because Jana Mikota is one of the most active and popular experts in the field of children's and young adult literature. She has been contributing her expertise to the Academy with great passion for over ten years, first as a member of the extended steering committee and then as chair of the "Book of the Month" jury.
Jana Mikota is a welcome member of juries (including the Leipzig Reading Compass, Paul Maar Prize), as an organizer and participant in conferences on children's and young adult literature research and literary studies in Germany, Austria and the USA. She is particularly interested in raising awareness of texts about the Shoah and researching children's literature in the GDR and Eastern Europe.
