The "Westdeutsche Katalyse-Lehrverbund" promotes cooperation between students of catalysis at the locations in North Rhine-Westphalia.

This year's PhD meeting dealt with current topics, practical methods and exciting issues in the field of catalysis. A productive week was experienced in a pleasant learning environment in which the focus was on exchange, new impulses and joint progress.

In addition to her involvement in the organizational team, Junior Professor Dr. rer. nat. Anna Katharina Beine acted as a lecturer and was able to introduce the participants to heterogeneous catalysis. In two lectures of 1.5 hours each, the participants were given an introduction to basic concepts, including the principles of heterogeneous catalysts, reaction processes on surfaces and the importance of kinetics, diffusion and mass transport. In addition, various methods for the production of solid catalysts and approaches for the elucidation of structure-activity relationships were discussed.
