Workshop: Early Christianity on the Frontiers of the Roman Empire

On June 8, 2026, the Department of Historical Theology hosted the workshop “Ancient Christianity at the Borders of the Roman Empire.”

The events centered on three lectures, on the topics “War and Ecclesiastical Peace: Mary’s Saracens and the Alexandrian Episcopate” (Marthe Becker, Bielefeld), “The Moors in the 6th Century: Between Ethnography and Exegesis” (Jakob Riemenschneider, Düsseldorf), and “The Inscriptions of Ezana: Highlights of the History of Religion in the Horn of Africa” (Niklas Bend, Siegen).
