Sophie Degen studied Business Analytics at the University of Siegen. During her studies, she gained her first research experience at the FernUniversität in Hagen, where she supported the Zukunftszentrum KI NRW project, among others.
As part of her Master's thesis, she worked with a regional media company to develop an LLM-based assistance system for the automated rewriting of media texts. She focused in particular on the question of how external and domain-specific knowledge can be integrated into AI systems in order to provide meaningful support for knowledge-intensive work processes.
From 2025 to 2026, Sophie Degen worked as a research assistant at the FernUniversität in Hagen in the projects Zukunftszentrum KI NRW and KoWima. In the Future Center AI NRW, she supported medium-sized companies with issues relating to artificial intelligence, generative AI and digital transformation. In the KoWima project, she worked on the development of conversation-based knowledge management using large language models. She has been continuing both projects at the University of Siegen since 2026.
Since 2026, she has been a research assistant at the Chair of Human-Centered Information Systems at the University of Siegen. Her research focuses on generative AI, knowledge management and knowledge-intensive work. The focus is on the question of how organizational and domain-specific knowledge can be integrated into AI systems and how AI systems can support the generation, transfer and use of knowledge in professional work contexts.
