Internships and training/further education

Bachelor internship

Several times a year, the Psychotherapeutic Outpatient Clinic (PHA) at the University of Siegen offers Bachelor's students of psychology the opportunity to complete an orientation internship and/or a professional internship. Our internships are designed to run alongside the semester and naturally meet the formal requirements of your degree course.

What you can expect from us

  • A wide range of practical insights: from telephone consultations with patients (initial contacts) to the organizational processes of a psychotherapeutic outpatient clinic
  • Test diagnostics in all age groups: Implementation and evaluation in children, adolescents and adults
  • Experience therapies at first hand: Participation in group and individual sessions (e.g. initial interviews)
  • Get to know practice management: Insight into the organizational and administrative processes that make everyday practice life possible

Requirements

  • Reliability and commitment: at least one full day or two half days per week (mornings or afternoons)
  • Diligence and discretion
  • Interest in psychotherapeutic work

Ideally, you will complete both internships with us (orientation and professional qualification internship) in order to receive particularly intensive training and gain a deeper understanding of the work. The orientation internship alone is not possible - you must complete at least the professional internship with us.

Our offer to you

  • Practical learning in an outpatient practice and research outpatient clinic
  • Important additional qualifications for a subsequent Master's degree in clinical psychology and psychotherapy
  • An appreciative, collegial team and a pleasant working atmosphere
  • Individual familiarization with your tasks
  • Flexible scheduling that takes into account your lecture, seminar and examination times
  • Optimal preparation for the MA KLIPPs and later tasks in a psychotherapeutic practice

Please send your application (short cover letter, CV, transcript of record) to pha@uni-siegen.de
stating the possible start date. Please read the FAQ before applying.

FAQ

We usually fill our internships on a quarterly basis (January, April, July, October). Before the official start, you will have an individual appointment to get to know our team, the processes and your tasks - so you are well prepared for your first regular working day.

The duration depends on the requirements of your internship regulations and your availability (e.g. sick leave or vacation periods). On average, the professional internship lasts around 6 months. If you are completing both an orientation and a professional internship with us, please allow around 9 months - this will allow you to immerse yourself particularly deeply in our work.

You can send us an unsolicited application at any time. To optimize your chances of getting a place, we recommend applying around six months before the desired start date.
Once we have received your application, we will add you to our pool of interested parties. Please indicate the earliest date from which you can start and any later start dates that would be possible for you. If you are shortlisted, we will invite you to a personal interview so that you can get to know us and your future tasks directly.

No. We want you to be firmly integrated into our team over a longer period of time. The regular working hours mean that you are actively integrated into the day-to-day running of the practice and you will learn more than in block internships, which are only short.

In principle, your times are regularly planned and coordinated with you. Additional hours are possible by arrangement, depending on current requirements. Vacations and time off for exams will of course be coordinated with you.

Yes, PHA's services are aimed at all patients (not just those within the university). That's why we are there for our patients all year round.

If you are planning a longer stay abroad during your internship or know that you will be absent beyond the usual vacation periods, please indicate this directly in your application. This will enable us to take this into account during the internship.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. The internships are primarily reserved for psychology bachelor students at the University of Siegen.

Due to the intensive training and the sensitive nature of the internship in terms of data protection, we are unfortunately unable to offer internships to school students.

We will be happy to clarify any uncertainties on these topics personally (by telephone or e-mail).
