Department of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Siegen offers a diverse teaching and research profile and is divided into several chairs. These include Practical Philosophy, Theoretical Philosophy and History of Philosophy. This spectrum is complemented by the Didactics of Philosophy working group, which also reflects on philosophical content from a teaching and educational perspective. Research focuses on Kant's practical and theoretical philosophy, metaethics, applied ethics and philosophy of religion, the philosophy of time and physics as well as medieval and Renaissance philosophy and intercultural-educational philosophical didactics. The seminar thus combines systematic and historical approaches with current issues and a strong teaching orientation. Students benefit from a variety of focal points, interdisciplinary links, a lively culture of discussion and intensive supervision.
