Safepower

Energy‑efficient mixed‑criticality systems for safety‑critical domains – SAFEPOWER aimed to create a reference architecture and platform supported by analysis, simulation and verification tools to achieve up to 50 % power savings in embedded computing systems of critical applications. It recognised that CRTES in railways, aerospace, automotive and energy sectors must balance safety, security and performance while becoming more energy‑efficient and cost‑effective. By orchestrating local power‑management techniques, the project sought to enable low‑power operation without compromising mixed‑criticality requirements

Description

SAFEPOWER addressed the challenge that power has to be shared among applications of different criticality levels, and there were no standardised low‑power techniques for safety‑critical domains. Its solution was a reference architecture orchestrating hardware and software power‑management techniques (e.g., dynamic frequency scaling, resource gating, temperature/power monitoring) integrated into a hardware/software platform. The project developed tools for analysis, simulation and verification to support early design and certification. Industrial partners from railway (CAF‑Signalling) and avionics (SAAB) guided the work to ensure results met end‑user needs and facilitated market adoption
