X-Moodle — Digital Exam System

E-Assessment - Digital Testing

As an online exam platform, X-Moodle enables the administration of synchronous digital exams.

The University of Siegen uses the X-Moodle exam software ("Exam-Moodle" or "Klausur-Moodle") to administer summative exams.

The service includes the legally compliant administration of electronic exams for both small and large numbers of participants, as well as comprehensive pedagogical, organizational, and technical consulting provided by ZIMT and ZFH, in conjunction with the administration of electronic exams in rooms PB-C 101 (lecture hall) and H-D 2202 (computer lab).

Moodle is familiar to faculty and students from their everyday university life (“Teaching Moodle”), so using X-Moodle generally does not require any adjustment. Faculty members who wish to administer exams using X-Moodle should be familiar with the “Teaching Moodle.”

Unlike Teaching Moodle, X-Moodle is a separate instance with usage scenarios restricted to exam administration, but at the same time featuring extended integrations with university systems for exam management (in particular unisono).

FAQ - What You Need to Know About Digital Exams

Exams using X-Moodle can be registered for starting in the summer semester of 2025.

The exam questions are imported from Q-Exam into X-Moodle. The migration is carried out in stages in coordination with the respective instructors.

Exams that have already been administered will remain in Q-Exam. After the transition, the system will continue to function as an archive system for the duration of the retention period.

  • For proctored digital exams, two rooms equipped with terminals from the University of Siegen are currently available (as of the 2026 summer semester). Reservations are made through unisono as part of the exam administration process.

    • H-D 2202: Computer lab with 30 exam stations for year-round use.
    • PB-C 101 (Aula): 150 laptops with permanent power connections during the break between semesters.
