Welcome to the MatheWerkstatt
The MatheWerkstatt is the university-level learning workshop for the didactics of mathematics at the University of Siegen. We offer students, faculty, researchers, and teachers an open and inspiring space for work in mathematics and mathematics education.
During the posted opening hours, anyone interested is welcome to make use of the diverse selection of physical and digital materials, textbooks, and specialized literature, develop new ideas, and experience mathematics in a stimulating atmosphere.
In addition to the seminars included in the curriculum, various events are held regularly to promote creative work in mathematics and foster constructive exchange.

Materials and Games
Individual support is also very important in math class. That’s why we have a wide selection of educational materials at the MatheWerkstatt that meet educational standards. In addition, we offer numerous games, ranging from resources for early math enrichment to materials for secondary school. These resources support a motivating and real-world approach to math and encourage independent learning.
Assessment & Support Tools
To address the diverse learning needs of a class in math lessons, we offer numerous diagnostic and support materials at the MatheWerkstatt. These include standardized testing procedures to assess learning levels, as well as a wide variety of materials for targeted support and individualized instruction.
Library
Our library offers an extensive selection of specialized literature on various mathematical and mathematics education topics. In addition to foundational works, you’ll also find dissertations, academic journals, and magazines. Selected theses are also available for review. The collection is regularly expanded and updated to ensure that current and relevant literature is always available.
The MatheWerkstatt for School Classes
Math class is about much more than just working with numbers and arithmetic operations. Math helps us understand everyday phenomena, solve problems, and discover new connections.
At the MatheWerkstatt, elementary and middle school classes can participate in specially developed learning activities. These are designed by college students under academic supervision and offer a wide range of opportunities for hands-on and discovery-based learning. The content of the project days is based on selected topics from the curriculum or on the individual preferences of the teachers.
Throughout the semester, school classes visit the MatheWerkstatt to test the learning environments that have been developed. At the same time, the students have the opportunity to gain their first teaching experiences, try out new ideas, and further develop their teaching skills. The insights gained from the project days are also incorporated into research on the didactics of mathematics.
