The University of Siegen is taking part in the nationwide campaign "Universities show attitude"
Universities are places of openness, critical thinking and the free exchange of ideas. These principles are inextricably linked to the fundamental values of our democratic society. At the same time, academic freedom, diversity and respectful discourse are increasingly coming under pressure - for example through political influence, the devaluation of academic findings or attacks on marginalized groups.
The "Universities take a stand" campaign draws attention to these developments and calls on university members to work together and actively promote a free, diverse and democratic academic and university culture. It was launched by a broad alliance of networks in the areas of diversity, equality and anti-discrimination in October 2025 (see statement "Universities take a stand").
The University of Siegen expressly supports these goals. However, for the University of Siegen, taking a stand is not a one-off statement, but a lived practice in everyday university life - in research, teaching, administration and in our interactions on campus.
The University of Siegen takes a stand - among other things by
- Signing the Diversity Charter
- Establishing the Equal Opportunities Unit
- Regular participation in programs such as TOTAL E-QUALITY and the Diversity Audit Shaping Diversity
- Awarding the Helge-Pross Prize for outstanding achievements in family and gender research
- Participation in the LRK working group on resilience to extremism
- Implementation of action days (e.g. Orange Day, Diversity Day, Inclusion Day, Family Weeks, IDAHOBIT*)
- Visible signs such as flying Progress Pride flags around IDAHOBIT and during Pride Month
- Further education certificate "Gender & Diversity in Research, Teaching and Administration"
- Involvement in networks such as the Diversity at Universities Network and the Anti-Discrimination at Universities Network
