Workshop for Teachers

Workshop: “Talent Scouting as Part of College and Career Guidance in Schools”

Career and academic guidance in schools has become significantly more important in recent years, as evidenced by legally mandated programs such as “No Diploma Without a Path Forward” (KAOA) in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is not uncommon for young teachers in particular to be entrusted with the task of coordinating academic and career guidance (StuBo). This workshop aims to provide a brief introduction to the framework conditions for academic and career guidance in schools. The primary focus is on talent scouting, which has expanded from the Ruhr region to more and more areas of North Rhine-Westphalia and Germany and is also being implemented in the districts of Siegen-Wittgenstein and Olpe. Talent scouting is aimed primarily at students from non-academic families and helps reduce educational inequality. Participants will learn about the concept, including its underlying sociological theories and economic implications, and reflect on ways to implement it in everyday school life.
