Award 

Mr. Tim Felix König, M.Sc., was awarded the Sponsorship Prize by the Architecture and Civil Engineering Support Association at the 2025 Siegen Construction Day for his master’s thesis titled“Trenchless Pipe Installation in Water Supply Systems—Development of a Decision-Making Tool for Rehabilitation Methods.” 

After completing his bachelor’s thesis in the department under Professor Görg on a topic in waste management technology, Mr. König took, among other courses, the module “Pipeline Infrastructure and Networks.” The content of his master’s thesis should be viewed in this context. In his master’s thesis, Mr. König developed a methodology that can serve as a decision-making tool for planners and operators of water supply networks.

Multi-criteria evaluation methods, such as those thoroughly researched by Mr. König in the theoretical section, are established to varying degrees in academia. Economic and technical aspects influence the selection of methods. Key parameters define the rehabilitation methods—with a focus on trenchless construction—that lead to successful project completion depending on the boundary conditions.

Mr. König was able to apply the structure and transparency of his decision matrix to specific example projects in water main construction, thereby effectively demonstrating the practical applicability of his research.
