Salon Diagonal
Vacancies are growing in Siegen and many rural regions. Buildings are falling into disrepair, town centers are losing their function, young people are moving away - an issue that concerns many municipalities. But what can be done when old structures crumble? In the next Salon Diagonal, we will be talking to the Zukunftsorte network about how buildings that are supposedly ready for demolition can be turned into vibrant places of the future. The team accompanies committed groups in the countryside, shares knowledge from realized projects and supports municipalities in taking bold new paths. This often results in something completely new: a manor house becomes a multi-generational house, a train station becomes a community center, an old workshop becomes a cultural venue.
We have one such example right on our doorstep: the Qulturwerkstatt in Netphen-Deuz. A former wood workshop has been transformed into a place for culture, encounters and youth work - a lively meeting place in the middle of the town. Culture is not a purely urban phenomenon. It creates community, promotes exchange and is indispensable, especially in rural areas.
We want to discuss this together in Salon Diagonal:
- How do new alliances develop in the countryside?
- What is their value - beyond turnover and returns?
Salon Diagonal creates an open space for exchange and ideas. Come along and bring friends - to listen, discuss and collect ideas. The event is open to the public and snacks/drinks will be provided. We look forward to seeing you!
