The Siegen Forum continues on June 11!
Sugars are much more than just a source of energy for our cells, they are also important building blocks and messengers. Like the building blocks of nucleic acids or proteins, sugar molecules can also be linked to form larger units (glycans). As with words formed from letters, the sequence of sugar molecules is crucial for communication between cells, as it represents a kind of "third alphabet of life", the sugar code. In his lecture, Prof. Dr. habil Hans Merzendorfer from the University of Siegen will provide insights into this code.

The manifold problems of our time do not allow science to be practiced only in an academic ivory tower. Even if scientific research and enlightenment cannot conjure up patent remedies and concise instructions, they are able to shape many insights and decisions in all areas of society through methodical training, critical questions and conditional information.
Acting in difficult times increasingly requires reflection. The Siegen Forum therefore discusses problems and examines methods that are important for "practice" in politics, business and culture. Representatives of all scientific disciplines will have their say - and listen.
The framework theme "Medicine of the Future", which is also the theme of the Science Year 2026, forms the umbrella for a total of nine events. Exciting focal points from various disciplines will be brought into focus and the view broadened.
