  • The student can design and safely dimension simple steel structures.
  • The student has knowledge of steel as a material and the basic characteristics of steel construction.
  • The student has knowledge of the different cross-section classes in steel construction.
  • The student is able to classify steel construction cross-sections.
  • The student is able to perform cross-section verifications (bending, longitudinal force, shear force).
  • The student has knowledge of the basics of welding technology.
  • The student is able to design welded and bolted connections.
  • The student is able to perform verifications for welded and bolted connections.

  • Areas of application and characteristics of steel construction, materials and basic products
  • Basics of dimensioning in steel construction according to DIN EN 1993
  • Cross-section classification
  • Design of steel cross-sections for bending, longitudinal and shear loads
  • Design and construction of bolted and welded connections, basics of welding technology

  • Written exam, 180 minutes or oral

  • Formal
    • In accordance with Article 2a § 9 Paragraph 3 FPO-B BAU or Article 2b § 9 Paragraph 3 FPO-B BAU, the prerequisite for participation in the examination is the successful completion of the modules of the first study section. In addition, passing the coursework in this module is a prerequisite for participation in the examination.
  • Content

    The course content of the following modules is also assumed to be known:

    • 4BAUBA106 "Structural Mechanics I - Rigid Body Statics";
    • 4BAUBA201 "Structural Mechanics II/III - Elastostatics/Dynamics";
    • 4BAUBA104 "Building construction".
