About Us
What is the Student Council?
The Student Council (FSR) is a student representative body composed of elected students who are re-elected each year by the students in our department. It is the decision-making body of the student body. The work of the elected FSR is supported by additional at-large (co-opted) members.
What exactly does the FSR do?
We are your first point of contact for any questions or problems related to your studies and can refer you to the appropriate people if necessary. To make your life at the university easier—especially during your first semester—we organize the First-Semester Orientation (ESE). Through a series of academic and practical information sessions, we help you get off to a good start in your studies. Of course, we also introduce you to Siegen’s nightlife with our evening program so you can get to know one another. In addition, the FSR is responsible for the events and field trips that take place every semester. To give you an overview of these, we’ve created an annual calendarhere.
Would you like to get involved with us?
We’re a group of dedicated and creative people, and we’re always looking for new help to handle our wide range of tasks. Of course, anyone can help out with the FSR, whether you’ve been elected or not. How much you want to get involved is entirely up to you.
Through us, you’ll have the following opportunities:
- direct contact with professors and departments
- Insights into internal university processes
- Problem-solving with other students
- Getting to know students from other semesters and majors
We’re always happy to see new faces—and, of course, hear new ideas. Just stop by our FSR meeting and check it out.
Each member of the Student Council is represented in one or more working groups. Each working group also has a spokesperson who represents the group on the Executive Board. You can find more information about the responsibilities and members of the individual working groups in the corresponding categories.

Every year, the Summer Festival takes place at the Paul-Bonatz Campus. Together with the Mechanical Engineering and Architecture student councils, we’d like to take you away from your everyday college routine for an afternoon.
Our summer party at the Paul-Bonatz Campus is an absolute highlight!!
Enjoy live music and hot DJ sets that’ll get the party going! Dance to the best beats and experience an atmosphere that’s simply electrifying. You can relax by the pool while sipping long drinks and playing beer pong with friends.
Thirsty? No problem! We’ve got plenty of beer and cold drinks to make the day even better.
We’re looking forward to creating an unforgettable celebration together with you. Be there and don’t miss the summer party at Paul-Bonatz!!!
Once a semester, we’ll take you on a tour of one of the many breweries located here thanks to the high-quality spring water. Join us for a firsthand look at how various specialty beers are brewed. Knowledgeable brewery staff will guide us through every stage of production, from the brewhouse to bottling. Afterward, we’ll have plenty of time to sample the specialty beers while enjoying a light snack in the cozy brewery parlor.
We’d be thrilled if you’d join us again for the next tour!

Every year around St. Nicholas Day, we traditionally hold a foosball tournament. The event is organized in collaboration with the Department of Hydromechanics, Inland and Coastal Water Engineering. Jörg Wieland, the heart and soul of the department, puts his heart and soul into this event.
Refreshments will be provided—for a small fee, you can eat and drink as much as you like.
Professors and lecturers will also be among the participants. So take this chance to impress them.
Our current champions:
two architects (2022)
Nick Steinhanses and Hanno Henrichs (Spring 2022)
Felix Soltau and Papa Soltau (2019)
Marius Ulm and Sebastian Gürke (2018)
We look forward to seeing you at the next foosball tournament!

Every year during the Christmas season, we organize a mulled wine stand together with other student council representatives.
We’ll be waiting for you in the lobby with a small selection of Christmas pastries and plenty of mulled wine.
For the sake of the environment, please bring your own Bauing mugs; otherwise, you can also purchase them from us.
We look forward to kicking off the holiday season with you over a glass of mulled wine.
The 94th Civil Engineering Student Conference (BauFaK) was held for the first time at the University of Siegen in 2019.
At the Civil Engineering Student Councils Conference, current and former representatives from German-speaking universities come together to address issues related to higher education policy and student life. After discussing the interim results in a plenary session, there is an opportunity to make improvements before the final plenary session, where the results are adopted by a majority vote as resolutions, recommendations, or theses.
In this process, not only are emerging issues identified, but proposed solutions are also developed, presented in plenary sessions, and discussed. In addition, great emphasis is placed on the exchange of experiences among participants, fostering the development of a broad network among them.
One day is set aside for field trips to regional “construction” landmarks. In addition to the planned schedule, there is always plenty of time for participants to share their experiences.
For the student council hosting the event, organizing and carrying out the conference is an immense challenge. Planning this five-day event requires several months of preparation for logistics and financing.
