With a few exceptions, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities' Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes are organized into standardized study models that allow for numerous individual combinations and specializations.

Please refer to the individual course descriptions for information on the models available for each course and seek individual advice on how to design your own course of study.

Bachelor programs

The study models of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities offer the following four options for combining the available subjects:

Model A: 1-subject degree program

You study 16 modules of one subject.

Model B: Extended core subject (12 modules) and supplementary subject (4 modules)

You study 12 modules of a subject as an extended core subject and combine this with a supplementary subject in which you study 4 modules.

Model C: Two core subjects (8 modules each)

You choose two subjects and study 8 modules in each.

Model D: Core subject (8 modules) and two supplementary subjects (4 modules each)

You combine a core subject, consisting of 8 modules, with two supplementary subjects, in each of which you study four modules.

In addition, all study models include the Studium Generale (2 modules), an internship (1 module) and the Bachelor's thesis (1 module). You will complete your studies with 180 credit points.

The Bachelor's degree course is available as a full-time or part-time course. The full-time course lasts six semesters, the part-time course lasts twelve semesters.

Master programs

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Siegen offers you a self-determined Master's program. Whether international, interdisciplinary or in preparation for a possible doctorate: your interest is decisive.

Model A: 1-subject degree program

The single-subject course prepares you specifically for a doctorate. The course comprises eight modules in one subject or a related subject group. In addition, there is an elective area of 18 CP, in which you can, for example, take a practical module (internship) or other modules from the Studium Generale.

Model A: Interdisciplinary degree program

The interdisciplinary model, in which different disciplines offer a joint Master's program, also comprises eight modules. Two subjects and an interdisciplinary field of study are combined. In addition, there is an elective area from the participating disciplines amounting to 9 CP as well as a further module, for example a practical module (internship), from the Studium Generale.

Model B: 2-subject degree program

The 2-subject Master's degree program combines a core subject (six modules) with a supplementary subject (two modules). In addition, there is an elective area of 18 CP, in which you can, for example, take a practical module (internship) or other modules from the Studium Generale.

The total scope of the M.A. degree program is 120 credit points (CP). The M.A. examination (consisting of the M.A. thesis and oral examination) accounts for 30 CP. This leaves 90 credits for the degree program, which are distributed across ten modules.

Model A in one-year form (2 semesters) is offered exclusively for the Master of Social Sciences in Europe following the Bachelor of Social Sciences in Europe.
