Language Center of the University of Siegen

The Language Center of the University of Siegen has the task of teaching languages, specialist languages and key communicative skills. The courses are available free of charge to all students and employees of the University of Siegen.

The Language Center also offers language tandems, international film evenings and a language café.

The Language Center's language courses are open to all members of the University of Siegen free of charge. Courses from A1 to C1 are offered, the course program can be viewed in unisono.

The Language Center offers courses on specific aspects of communication that students from all Schools can take and add as an additional qualification, as an elective or as part of a certificate.

It is important to evaluate your language skills for applications and stays abroad as well as for participation in the appropriate course level. The Language Centre offers internationally recognized test procedures as well as standardized and valid placement tests.

Consulting services

The Language Center offers individual consultations on course selection, language level and learning strategies. In addition, we offer writing advice in German as a foreign language (DaF), English and Spanish to help you plan, structure and write your academic texts.

Self-learning opportunities

In the SESAM (Self-Study Center), the Language Center provides materials and digital tools for independent learning. In addition, offers such as a language café, tandem program, film evenings and other activities are offered to promote language practice.

Irish language movie night

In cooperation with the International Office, the Language Center offers international film evenings several times a semester. You can watch exciting films from all over the world and improve your foreign language skills in an entertaining way at the same time.

Each film evening is accompanied by a culinary and cultural offer that gives you the opportunity to try typical specialties of the respective country and learn more about the culture. The result is an all-round interactive experience that combines film, language and culture in a varied way.

International language café

The language café is not just for playing games together, but also for talking about personal matters, culture or regional studies, with the language café team providing moderation and support.

All languages are welcome. We always have language partners for German, English and Spanish. For other languages, you should ideally come with your tandem partner. If you register early, we may also be able to find a language partner for your desired language.

TestDaF

The TestDaF is a German language test for international applicants. The TestDaF proves that you have the language skills to study in German at a university. Academics can use the TestDaF to prepare for research stays at German universities. The TestDaF certificate is recognized by all universities in Germany.

The Advisory Board of the Language Center includes the Deans of Studies of the Schools or another member of the Dean's Office, a representative of the International Office, one representative each from the student group, the academic staff group and the technical and administrative staff group with voting rights.
