Central external legal advice center for victims of abuse of power

For all university members in NRW

Based on the joint declaration of commitment by North Rhine-Westphalian universities on dealing with abuse of power in academia, a central external legal advice center has been set up for those affected by abuse of power and for internal university departments dealing with the issue.

Lawyer Martina Lörsch was commissioned to implement this. Together with her colleagues, she offers independent and cross-university initial legal advice and supports those affected and internal university bodies in the legal classification of incidents as well as with questions about possible reporting and complaint channels.

The service is aimed at

  • all members of public universities (students and employees) and employees of university hospitals as well as
  • internal university contact and advice centers (e.g. equal opportunities and anti-discrimination officers, AStA advice centers, etc.).

The main cornerstones of the service are

  • Confidential, independent and, if desired, anonymous legal advice (no legal representation, no client relationship, no clarification of facts);
  • Information on rights, obligations, possible complaints procedures (e.g. AGG or disciplinary complaints) and their consequences, e.g. in workshops or training sessions;
  • Orientation to other internal and external points of contact;
  • Support, especially if internal counseling services are no longer sufficient or there is a lack of trust in them.

The contact point thus sees itself as a complementary instance that does not replace internal university structures, but rather takes over where these reach their limits.

The lawyers can now be contacted by telephone on 0221 973 128-53 and by email at info(at)rechtsberatung-machtmissbrauch.nrw
can be contacted. Further information can be found on the website of Rechtsberatung Machtmissbrauch NRW.
