On April 1, 2026, the time had come: 21 students successfully completed the Master's degree course in "Planning and Building in Existing Contexts" at the University of Siegen. Following the award ceremony, it was once again a festive - and exciting - occasion: the best theses from the Department of Architecture were honored.

The prizes, donated by the Förderverein Architektur und Bauwesen, are traditionally awarded by secret ballot among the teaching staff. This semester, the first chairman Stephan Almasi personally presented the awards.

The third prize went to Alexander Bischopink and John Heinemann for their work "Altes Theisen Kabelwerk". Katharina Specht gave the laudatory speech on behalf of Prof. Astrid Wuttke. Elija Wagener was awarded second prize for his work on the revitalization of the village center in Salchendorf (laudator: Prof. Dr. Bert Bielefeld). First prize went to Aleyna Cilingir, Ceyda Nur Kaya and Beyza Yildiz for their work "Lebewesen - Studentischer Entwurfswettbewerb Olpe Lütringhausen Thyssen Krupp Areal and more", presented by Prof. Dr. Thorsten Erl.

Another highlight of the evening was the awarding of the BDA Prize Siegen-Olpe-Wittgenstein. The members of the Association of German Architects assessed the work independently and awarded the prize to Shamin Mahdizadeh for the work "Extension of an elementary school incorporating historical buildings". The award was presented by Marcus Heider.

Unfortunately, the Alumni Association's prize for special commitment to academic self-administration could not be awarded this semester as there were no suitable nominations.

An all-round successful evening, which impressively demonstrated the diversity and quality of the final theses.
