Graduation Ceremony in the Department of Architecture

Yesterday, the Department of Architecture at the University of Siegen held a festive graduation ceremony to honor its master’s graduates from the summer semester of 2026. Of the 24 graduates, 20 received their master’s diplomas in person.

Two Equivalent Awards for the Best Thesis

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the awards for the best thesis in the Department of Architecture for the summer semester of 2026. The prize, endowed by the Friends of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Siegen, was awarded this year to two theses, which were deemed equally outstanding. The decision was made by secret ballot among all faculty members of the department. Both theses received an equal number of votes.

The recipients were:

  • Dilara Acikel Birkan for her thesis “Wolfsburg Award for Urban Vision.” The laudatory speech was delivered by Prof. Dr. Thorsten Erl.

  • Sara Kaddoura for her project “Architecture for Mental Health—Design of a Healing Center in Siegen.”

The award was presented by Mr. Tobias Dangendorf, representing the Friends of the Department.

BDA Prize for “Contemporary Approaches to Bunkers”

The award from the BDA Siegen-Olpe-Wittgenstein (Association of German Architects) was eagerly anticipated again this semester. The BDA awards its prize based on its own evaluation and independently of the faculty’s selection. This semester, the prize went to Rebecca Sasse for her thesis “Contemporary Approaches to Bunkers.” It was presented by Markus Stark.

The Department of Architecture extends its heartfelt congratulations to all graduates on their successful completion of their studies and wishes them all the best in their future professional and personal endeavors. Special congratulations go to the award winners.
